Sail across the Sea of Galilee, as you share in a special time of worship on the water. Enter the 2,000 year old remains of Capernaum and stand in what is left of the synagogue in which Jesus ministered. Stop at Tabgha, where the feeding of the 5,000 is remembered at the Church of the Loaves and Fish. Visit the Mt. of Beatitudes, which commemorates the location of the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7. After our delicious fish lunch, visit the Chapel of the Primacy to remember where the Lord asked Peter 3 times whether or not he loved Him. Finish the day by gathering at the River Jordan, where you can remember or renew your baptism.
Day 4 - Northern Israel
Visit Tel Dan, and see the altar built by King Jereboam I. Journey to Caesarea Philippi, where Peter proclaimed, "You are the Christ". Drive through the Golan Heights and see first hand how strategically important this area is to the security of Israel.
Day 5 - Nazareth, Megiddo, Mt. Carmel, Caesarea Maritima, Jerusalem
A big day today. This morning travel to the Mediterranean coast and then inland to visit Nazareth, the boyhood home of Jesus. Stand on the Mount of Precipice, the possible place where an enraged hometown mob attempted to throw Jesus off the cliff. Travel the ancient caravan route to Tel Megiddo, where 20 different cities lie superimposed upon each other overlooking the plains of Armageddon. Continue on to Mt. Carmel where Elijah prayed down fire from heaven and slew the prophets of Baal. Arrive at Caesarea Maritima, where Paul was brought for trial before Festus and King Agrippa before his journey to Rome. See the extensive ruins including the ancient theater and aqueduct. Continue to Jerusalem and take time to view this city before check in, dinner and overnight.
Day 6 - Mt. of Olives, Garden of Gethsemane, Mt. Zion - House of Caiaphas, Upper Room, Western Wall
Start your day atop the Mount of Olives where you can take in a remarkable view of the “Golden City” of Jerusalem. It was from this mount that Jesus ascended to Heaven 40 days after the resurrection. At the base of the Mt. of Olives is the Garden of Gethsemane where the Lord agonized over His decision about going through with the crucifixion. Walk through some of the ancient rooms in the House of the High Priest Caiaphas. It could have been here where Jesus was held overnight before His crucifixion. Journey to Mt. Zion to stand in the Upper Room, revered as the place of the Last Supper and view the traditional site of King David’s Tomb. At the Davidson Center, sit on the 2,000-year-old Southern Steps that once led into the Herodian Temple complex on the Temple Mount. Take time to pray at the Western Wall and for those who would like, you have the opportunity to place your prayer requests in the ancient stone crevices. This evening, the hotel serves a special Shabbat buffet dinner before getting a good night's sleep.
Day 7 - Southern Wilderness & Ruins
Enjoy a visit to intriguing Masada, the spectacular mountaintop fortress built by Herod that later became the final tragic stronghold of the Jewish rebellion against the Romans. Visit Qumran, site of the Dead Sea Scroll discovery, to learn about the mysterious community of Essenes who once lived on the shores of the Dead Sea. Take an opportunity to float in the salt & mineral-laden waters of The Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth, before returning to your Jerusalem hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 8 - Bethlehem and Jerusalem
Enter the town of Bethlehem and look out over Shepherd's Fields where the angelic choir sang praises about the gift of the Savior's birth as Shepherds watched over their flocks of sheep. Afterward visit the Nissan Brothers wood working shop and store. Return to Jerusalem and walk through portions of the Old City, visiting the Pool of Bethesda, where the man who was sick for 38 years was healed on the Sabbath as stated in John 5. Lift your voice in praise in the nearby wonderfully acoustic sanctuary of St. Anne’s Church. Another site in the Old City is Antonia's Fortress, where Roman soldiers were stationed during the trial of the Lord. Walk the Via Dolorosa, “the Way of the Cross,” and reflect on His sacrificial love.
Day 9 - Menorah at the Knesset, Shopping, Gordon's Calvary, Garden Tomb, Yad Vashem
We will stop at the Knesset Building, seat of government for the nation of Israel, and get a better understanding of the Menorah that was stationed at this site. Some time given today for shopping in the city of Jerusalem or an optional tour with a Rabbi of areas of Jerusalem. Then we will visit Gordon’s Calvary reflecting on the agony of the cross and at the Garden Tomb where we can experience the exhilaration of the Lord’s resurrection. Leaving there we finish the day at Yad Vashem (the Holocaust Museum) to remind us of this recent tragedy in the existence of the Jewish people. After dinner, there will be a late night airport transfer for your flight home.
