Day 3 - March 25 – From Sea to Sea
Start your morning on the shores of the Mediterranean at Caesarea Maritima, the port town of Herod the Great. Explore the extensive ruins including the Roman theater and aqueduct. It was here that Cornelius became the first Gentile convert to the new covenant. This is also the location where Paul was imprisoned before being taken to Rome for trial. Visit Tel Megiddo, where the ruins of twenty cities built on top of each other overlook the plains of Armageddon. Take the ancient caravan route to Mount Carmel, where Elijah defeated the prophets of ba’al. Look out over Nazareth, the boyhood home of Jesus from the Mount of Precipice, where an angry crowd from the synagogue attempted to throw Jesus off a cliff.
Day 4 - March 26 – Jesus in the Galilee
Explore the Galilee region today where Jesus spent the majority of his ministry. Start at Kibbutz Nof Ginosar, where you’ll see the “Jesus Boat” a fishing vessel from the time of Christ that was raised from the bottom of Lake Kinneret (the Sea of Galilee). Share in a special time of worship on the water as you sail the Sea of Galilee together. Visit the ruins at Magdala, the hometown of Mary Magdalene and see what remains of its 1st century synagogue. Enjoy a St. Peter’s Fish Lunch (included) then ascend the Mount of Beatitudes to reflect on the Sermon on the Mount and what it means to be blessed. Wander Capernaum, the center of Jesus’ ministry in the Galilee and see Tabgha, where the Feeding of the 5,000 is remembered.
Day 5 - March 27 – Up to Jerusalem
Gather at the River Jordan, where those that wish to, may get baptized. Travel south through the Jordan Valley and up to Jerusalem! Look out over the city from the Mount of Olives, where Jesus ascended to heaven after the resurrection. Walk the Palm Sunday Path recalling the shouts of “Hosanna!” as Jesus made His triumphal entry to the city. Pray among the olive trees in the Garden of Gethsemane as Jesus did, the night He was betrayed with a kiss. Check in to your Jerusalem hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 6 - March 28 – Jerusalem & Bethlehem
This morning visit the Israel Museum to see a massive scale model of 1st century Jerusalem as well as the Shrine of the Book, where the Dead Sea Scrolls are displayed. Visit the Upper Room to reflect on the Last Supper. Visit the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu, built over what is believed to be the house of the High priest Caiaphas, and may be where Jesus was held overnight prior to the crucifixion. This afternoon visit the little town of Bethlehem. Look out over the Shepherds’ Field where the angels proclaimed good tidings of great joy!
Day 7 - March 29 – Jerusalem
Start your day at the Friends of Zion Museum which celebrates the partnerships of Christians and Jews who supported the dream of a Jewish homeland. Pray alongside the Jewish faithful at the iconic Western Wall and visit the nearby Southern Wall Excavations. Explore the Jewish Quarter of the Old City, including the Cardo where ancient and modern shops are intermingled. Walk the museum and grounds of Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust Memorial, with its poignant exhibits honoring the millions of lives lost during the Holocaust.
Day 8 - March 30 – Leisure Day-OR-Optional Masada & Dead Sea (Additional Cost)
Enjoy a free day on your own in Jerusalem or take an optional day trip to Masada and the Dead Sea ($75 per person). Masada is the spectacular mountaintop fortress of Herod the Great, famous as the last stronghold of the Jewish rebellion against the Romans. Take the cable car to the top and look down on the Roman camps and siege ramp below. Next, visit the Dead Sea – the lowest place on the surface of the earth! Float in the renowned salt and mineral-laden waters.
Day 9 - March 31– Jerusalem
Enter the Old City via the Lion’s Gate and visit the Antonia Fortress, where Jesus may have been brought before Pilate. Lift your voice in song in Church of St. Anne, then walk over to the Pool of Bethesda, where Jesus healed a man on the Sabbath. Walk a portion of the traditional Via Dolorosa (Way of Suffering), then gather together at the Garden Tomb to reflect on the agony of the crucifixion and celebrate the glory of the resurrection.
Day 10 - April 1 – Return
Return home with a transformed faith and memories to last a lifetime!
