Day 3 - November 22 – Mount of Beatitudes, Capernaum, Kursi, Boat Ride on Sea of Galilee, Jordan River

Begin your day at the Mount of Beatitudes and contemplate the “Sermon on the Mount” (Matthew 5-7). Visit Capernaum, the center of Jesus’ ministry in Galilee, and visit the synagogue built on the site where Jesus taught (Matthew 4:13 and 23). Enjoy the excavations that include where Peter’s house is thought to have been located and Christ would have met with His followers. Journey to Kursi on the northeast side of the lake is considered part of the region of the Gadarenes in Christ’s time and remember where Jesus cast out the demons that sent the swine down the hill into the lake. Worship as you sail across the Sea of Galilee. Finish the day at the Yardenit Baptismal Site of the Jordan River, where you can renew your baptism.

Day 4 - November 23 – Chorazim, Tel Dan, Caesarea Philippi, Golan Heights

Today, you’ll head for the northern regions of Israel. Walk the streets of Chorazim, listed as a “city of woe” by Jesus. At the ruins of Tel Dan, see the altar built by King Jeroboam I (I Kings 12:25-30) and learn about where the “House of David” fragment from the First Temple Period was discovered. Continue to Caesarea Philippi, where Peter told the Lord, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God!” (Matt.16:16). A scenic drive along the Golan Heights will give you some beautiful views of Syria, Jordan, and Israel.

Day 5 - November 24 – Caesarea Maritima, Megiddo, Nazareth

Happy Thanksgiving Day! Visit the Roman aqueduct and theatre at Caesarea, a center of early Christianity (Acts 10) and where Paul was imprisoned for two years (Acts 23:33). View Mount Carmel and recall Elijah’s dramatic victory over the prophets of Baal (I Kings 18). Follow an ancient caravan route through the Jezreel Valley to Tel Megiddo, an exciting archeological dig with layers of twenty different cities, all built on top of each other. Conclude your day in Nazareth, Jesus’ boyhood home (Matthew 2:23), and stand on Mount Precipice, the place where an enraged hometown mob attempted to throw Jesus off the cliff. This evening, gather with your fellow travelers to share in the Thanksgiving meal.

Day 6 - November 25 – Beit Shean, Jordan River Valley, Dead Sea, Jerusalem

Travel south along the Jordan River. Your first stop will be Beit Shean, a city continuously inhabited for over 5,000 years and which was part of the Decapolis in Jesus’ day. Explore the theater, Roman bath, and colonnaded streets. Travel through the Jordan River Valley, the route often taken by Jesus and other Galileans as they traveled to and from Jerusalem. Take an opportunity to float on the mineral-laden waters of the Dead Sea, whose buoyancy and medicinal benefits are world-renowned. Pass through the Judean Wilderness paralleling the ancient Roman road to Jerusalem for check-in to your hotel, dinner, and overnight.

Day 7 - November 26 – Mount of Olives, Palm Sunday Road, Gethsemane, Bethlehem

Stand on the Mount of Olives, where Jesus ascended into Heaven forty days after His resurrection and take in the remarkable panoramic view of the city of Jerusalem. Walk the Palm Sunday Road down to the Garden of Gethsemane and pray among the olive trees. Visit Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus. Look out on Shepherds’ Field, where angels spread the Good News.

Day 8 - November 27 - Mount Zion, Upper Room, King David’s Tomb, House of Caiaphas, Southern Steps, First-Century Model City

Journey to Mount Zion to stand in the Upper Room, revered as the place of the Last Supper, and view the traditional site of King David’s Tomb. Walk through some of the ancient rooms in the House of the High Priest Caiaphas. It is believed that it was here that Jesus was held overnight before His crucifixion. At the Davidson Center, sit on the 2,000-year-old Southern Steps that once led into the Herodian Temple complex on the Temple Mount. At the First Century Model of the City of Jerusalem, gain a better understanding of Jerusalem at the time of Christ.

Day 9 - November 28 – Old City, Pool of Bethesda, Via Dolorosa, Cardo, Gordon’s Calvary, Garden Tomb

Walk through portions of the Old City of Jerusalem and visit the Pool of Bethesda, where the man who was sick for 38 years was healed on the Sabbath. See some of the streets known as the Via Dolorosa, and walk along the Cardo, the ancient marketplace where sights and sounds of modern shops mingle with ruins dating back to the Judean monarchy. Reflect on the agony of the cross at Gordon’s Calvary and the Garden Tomb and experience the exhilaration of Jesus’ resurrection.
