In Capernaum, you can explore the ruins of a synagogue built on the site where Jesus taught. You will also visit the excavations believed to be the location of Peter's house. At the serene Mount of Beatitudes, which overlooks the Sea of Galilee, take a moment to reflect on the teachings from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. Say goodbye to the Galilee as you head south through the Jordan River Valley. Your first destination will be the baptism site of Qsar el Yahud a significant location for many Biblical events, including the Lord's baptism, the Israelites' entry into the promised land, and Elisha receiving a double portion of Elijah's spirit before Elijah ascended to heaven. You'll also get a view of Jericho, known as the city of palms and the first city to fall during Israel's conquest of their promised land. Next, visit Ein Gedi, the hideout where David and his men sought refuge from King Saul before David became king. Enjoy dinner and spend the night at a hotel by the Dead Sea. (B,D)

Day 7 - September 15 - Masada / Qumran / Jerusalem overlook from Mt. Scopus

Experience the fascinating site of Masada, a stunning mountaintop fortress constructed by Herod, which later served as the last stronghold for the Jewish resistance against the Romans in 73 AD. Take a cable car ride to the summit to explore the fortress and gaze down at the remnants of the Roman camps and siege ramp below. We will also visit Qumran, the location where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. Stroll down the Palm Sunday Road to the Garden of Gethsemane, where you can pray among the olive trees. Enjoy lunch in the old city (on own), then head to the southern part of the city to visit Mt. Zion and the Upper Room, which some believe to be King David's tomb and the location of the Last Supper and the Holy Spirit's baptism on Pentecost. Walk along the Via Dolorosa, known as "the Way of the Cross," and conclude your day with dinner. (B,D)

Day 9 - September 17 - Jewish Quarter, Davidson Center, Western Wall Temple Mount, City of David, Pool of Siloam

At the base of these steps, you'll find several ancient Mikvahs. Take a moment to view the Temple Mount, the historic site of Solomon's Temple. Next, visit the Western Wall to pray for peace in Jerusalem. Discover the 3,000-year-old remnants of the City of David on the southern slope of Jerusalem, which leads to Hezekiah's Tunnel. This tunnel, constructed by King Hezekiah to supply water during sieges, still carries water from the Spring of Gihon today. Remarkably, Hezekiah's Tunnel was an engineering marvel, dug from both ends until they met in the middle! (Note: Those who are claustrophobic may prefer to join the group at the tunnel's exit.)
