This port city reveals many extensive remains of the theater and other sites, including a Roman aqueduct along the Mediterranean shore. Look out over the Valley of Jezreel from the heights of Mount Carmel, where Elijah defeated the prophets of Baal. Travel the ancient caravan route to Tel Megiddo, an exciting archeological dig with its layers of twenty different cities built on top of each other. Visit Nazareth, the boyhood home of Jesus and Mount Precipice, where an angry crowd from the synagogue attempted to throw Jesus off a cliff. Dinner is at our hotel.

Day 4 - May 16 – Caesarea Philippi, Tel Dan, Sea of Galilee, Capernaum, Mount of Beatitudes, Jordan River

Visit Caesarea Philippi, where Jesus traveled with His disciples and where Peter made his great confession to Jesus, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God”. Visit Tel Dan, one of Israel’s ancient northern boundary markers - “From Dan to Beersheba”. Return to the Sea of Galilee and explore the remains of Capernaum, the center of Jesus’ ministry in the Galilee. Visit the ruins of the synagogue located on the site where Jesus taught. Recall His teaching and preaching the gospel of the kingdom. On the Mount of Beatitudes, contemplate the “Sermon on the Mount” that Jesus preached while standing in these hills. Remember your baptism at the Yardenit Baptismal site, where the Jordan River exits the Sea of Galilee on its journey southward.

Day 5 - May 17 – Boat Ride, Harod (Gideon’s Spring), Bet Shean, Jordan Valley, Qumran, Jerusalem

Begin your last day in the Galilee by crossing the Sea of Galilee by boat. Appreciate the special place this lake had in Jesus’ ministry as you enjoy a special worship service on the lake. As we journey south on the Jordan Valley, we stop at Ein Harod, the spring where Gideon gathered his men to fight the Midianites. A little further along are the amazing ruins of the ancient Roman city of Beit Shean where the bodies of King Saul and his sons were hung following their death in a battle with the Philistines on Mount Gilboa. Travel through the Jordan River Valley, the route often taken by Jesus and other Galileans as they traveled to and from Jerusalem. Walk the remains of an ancient community near the shores of the Dead Sea at Qumran. In the caves near here, Bedouins discovered what became known as the Dead Sea Scrolls. We travel through the Judean wilderness on our way to the capital city of Jerusalem. We can take some time to view the city before checking into our hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 - May 18 – Mount of Olives, Palm Sunday Road, Garden of Gethsemane, Bethlehem (Shepherds’ Field)

Stand on the Mount of Olives for a remarkable view of the “Golden City” of Jerusalem. Walk down Palm Sunday Road and take time to pray as Jesus did among the olive trees in the Garden of Gethsemane. Visit Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus. Look out on Shepherds’ Field, where angels spread the Good News.

Day 7 - May 19 – Mount Zion, Upper Room, Western Wall Tunnel, Cardo, Pools of Bethesda, St. Anne’s Church

Start your day at Mount Zion and the Upper Room, the traditional location of the Last Supper and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Travel back in time as you explore the Western Wall Tunnel. Continue your journey through the Old City to the Cardo. This ancient marketplace has ruins that date back to the Judean monarchy mingled with modern shops. View the Pool of Bethesda (John 5), where Jesus performed the Sabbath miracle. Nearby, sing a chorus in St. Anne’s Church and marvel at its amazing acoustics.

Day 8 - May 20 – Masada, Ein Gedi, Dead Sea

Enjoy a visit to intriguing Masada, the spectacular mountaintop fortress built by Herod that later became the final tragic stronghold of the Jewish rebellion against the Romans. Ride the cable car to the top to explore the fortress and look down upon the remains of the Roman camps and siege ramp below. Journey to the oasis of Ein Gedi, where David and his men sought refuge from Saul (1 Samuel 23). Stop at the shores of the Dead Sea, the lowest spot on earth, and feel its mineral-laden waters. Return to Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

Day 9 - May 21 – Model City, Shrine of the Book, Yad Vashem (Holocaust Museum), Garden Tomb

Learn about the Jerusalem of Jesus’ day with a look at the first-century model of the City of Jerusalem, now housed at the Israel Museum. The museum itself contains 10,000 years of archeological artifacts, as well as the Shrine of the Book exhibit that displays the Dead Sea Scroll containing the book of Isaiah.
