Daily Itinerary

Day 1 - October 13 – Depart the USA

Depart the USA on your flight to Reykjavik.

Day 2 - October 14 - Arrive in Iceland

Arrive in Iceland. Your local guide will await you at the airport and lead you to your private coach. Only 10 minutes away, we will make the first stop in Iceland, where we will visit the Viking World Museum, where you will have the opportunity to see the home of the Viking Ship Íslendingur (the Icelander). Built in 1996, Icelander is a replica of the famous Gokstad ship, a remarkable archaeological find of an almost completely intact Viking ship excavated in Norway in 1882—also home to a portion of the Viking millennium exhibition produced by the Smithsonian Institution. Breakfast is served from 7 AM and is inspired by old Nordic traditions. After breakfast, explore the Viking Ship “The Icelander,” put on some Viking costumes, and take pictures! We will enjoy breakfast at the museum before we hop on the coach again. We will explore the Reykjanes Peninsula further. We will either explore Gunnuhver, the bridge between continents, or drive past the new lava to Krýsuvík and Kleifarvatn before heading to Reykjavík. Note that the check-in time is 2–4 PM. If the group stays at Plaza, they will be taken to the nearest bus stop, where they will take their luggage to the hotel. For Miðgarður, the group will be dropped off right at the hotel. The luggage will be stored if the rooms are not ready for check-in. Luggage porterage included. The rest of the day is free to explore on your own. 3-course welcome dinner close to your hotel.

Group Dinner close to your hotel.

After dinner, we will go on the hunt for the Northern Lights – The Northern lights or Aurora Borealis are one of nature’s greatest shows on Earth – tops the bucket lists of travelers all over the globe. Join us on a thrilling hunt from Reykjavik to spot this ghostly glow in the dark sky. You’ll escape the city’s artificial lights and drive into the deep darkness of the countryside. Our guides keep a close eye on weather conditions to find the perfect spot to admire the Aurora Borealis. Your encounter with these ephemeral lights will make for a magical night! Your guide will take free photos of you and the aurora for your travel album, so you’ll always have a reminder of this breathtaking moment!

Note that the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and it is essential that the group is aware that the weather conditions are something one cannot count on.

Day 4 - October 16 - Three-day South Coast highlights Tour (B/L/D)

Breakfast at your hotel.

This jewel of Iceland tour package will take you south before continuing to the east as you are whisked away for two days of fantastic adventure sightseeing. On the way to your first stop, the very unusual Seljalandsfoss waterfall, you will drive towards the slowly rising sun. You can walk behind the gracefully falling cascade. It is well worth getting a little damp for such an exciting experience! The next highlight is another waterfall, Skógafoss, located at the foot of a famous volcano, Eyjafjallajökull. On a clear day, you will also see another volcano mountain glacier, Mýrdalsjökull. As you continue, you’ll come to Reynisfjara, a black beach where fantastic sights, such as the picturesque basalt column formations and the famous Reynisdrangar peaks, will greet you. You will drive through the charming small town of Vík on your way to your accommodation. You can expect to see breathtaking landscapes of vast lava fields, waterfalls, black sands, and glacier tongues throughout the day. You will enjoy a relaxing evening; if the conditions are right, you will hunt for those northern lights! The countryside close to Vatnajökull glacier, away from the city lights, is perfect for spotting this natural phenomenon.

In Hvolsvöllur, the group will explore the Lava and Volcano center exhibition that will give an excellent insight into the volcanic geology in the area and in Iceland (included)

Day 5 - October 17 - Two-day South Coast highlights Tour (B/D)

Breakfast at your hotel.

Today you will really get to know the glacier, venturing into the sparkling, blue/white world of an ice cave with a qualified guide, and visiting the extraordinary glacier lagoon, Jökulsárlón. Getting up close and personal with a vast glacial tongue of the great Vatnajökull glacier does not get any better than this! The renowned Jökulsárlón Ice Lagoon, made famous by several blockbuster movies including Batman Begins and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, to name just a couple, is a totally mind-blowing place. Splendid icebergs of amazing shapes, some incredibly large, have calved off the receding Breiðamerkurjökull glacier. They jostle one another in the huge lagoon before gliding on their surreal and stately journeys to the Atlantic ocean. Many of these natural ice sculptures are washed onto the nearby Diamond Beach, you will see them glittering like diamonds, as they rest on the dramatic coal blackness of the beach.

Next, you go into the glacier with a qualified guide! Ice caves are fascinating. New caves are formed each winter by the melt/ freeze cycle of the glacier, they are always changing, both from year to year and within each winter. The journey into an ice cave will give photographers the most amazing opportunity to capture the shimmering blue light which passes through the glacial ice. Surprisingly deep shades of jewel blue will surround you, these tones are caused by ice compression, the way we perceive light and color, and the blueness can sometimes be intensified by algae.
After visiting the ice cave you will head to the west direction again. You will stop at Skaftafell Nature Reserve in Vatnajokull National Park, a green area in the midst of amazingly jagged mountains and glacier- topped peaks, the splendid scenery of Skaftafell is certain to be a highlight of your tour.
Lunch on own en route - lunch box can be added at cost.

Day 6 - October 18 - Golden Circle – Reykjavík (B/L/D)

Breakfast at your hotel.

Highlights tour From Reykjavik you will then drive off to the famous Golden Circle on a Super Jeep which will be your ride of the day. This tour allows visitors to get in touch with some of Iceland’s most famous and exciting natural phenomena. Your first stop for the day will be at Þingvellir National Park, 40 minutes east of the city. Þingvellir is one of Iceland’s most historic sites as it was here that Iceland’s first parliament, Althingi was founded in the year 930 AD. From Þingvellir you will then head to the world-renowned geothermal area around Geysir hot spring where you can witness gurgling bubbling water burst up to 25 meters high. The area is covered in numerous hot springs, some active, others not. The area is smoke filled and mysterious, but exciting at the same time. Strokkur is now the main number of the show as it bursts every 4 to 10 minutes.

From Geysir, you will continue on to Gullfoss, “the Golden waterfall”.
Gullfoss is a great sight and a perfect photo spot with water rushing down three steps of lava layers exhibiting breathtaking power and grandeur. This is the final stop of the Golden Circle, but definitely not of the day.
Next up, you kick the action into a higher gear and go for a 1 hour snowmobiling ride on Langjökull, Iceland’s second largest glacier. The Super jeep has no problem reaching the glacier camp on Langjökull and the views whilst getting there are amazing. Your snowmobile guides will welcome you, give a briefing and proper gear for the snowmobiling. Once you are all suited up there is nothing left to do than to step onto your snowmobile and follow your guide on an hour glacier expedition. To explore a glacier is an enchanting experience on its own, but to do it on a snowmobile is something else! After the ride of a lifetime, you will join again at the glacier camp before jumping into the Super Jeep again and starting your scenic drive back to Reykjavík.

You will keep an eye out for the Northern Lights on your way back to the city and will make a short stop if conditions allow for it.
Farewell dinner close to the hotel.
